The Texas Rangers continued to close in on the American League West title as they beat the Mariners on Saturday. Adrian Beltre had three hits and Shin-Soo Choo and Delino DeShields Jr. each had two hits as the Rangers scored 10 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Cole Hamels allowed seven hits and a run while striking out 12 over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 4-1 since joining the Rangers. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Derek Holland who has allowed 42 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 31 over 43 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.77 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners continued to play out the season as they lost the Rangers on Saturday. Franklin Gutierez hit a home run, Ketel Marte had two hits, and Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano had hits as the Mariners scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Vidal Nuno allowed five hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out three over 3.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-3 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who has allowed 168 hits and 75 earned runs while striking out 180 over 190 innings for a 17-9 record and a 3.55 ERA.
Texas is 6-1 in their last seven games, 23-6 in their last 29 home games, and 8-3 in Holland’s last 11 starts. Seattle is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 11-6 in their last 17 games, and 2-5 in Hernandez’s last seven road starts. Seattle is 8-4 in their last 12 games in Texas.
The Mariners play well in Texas and with Hernandez going the are the choice but it is lukewarm at best.
