The Colorado Rockies and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Wednesday in Colorado as they continue their MLB series.
The Colorado Rockies continue to play out the season as they fell to the Pirates on Tuesday. Wilin Rosario hit a home run, Charlie Blackmon had two hits, and Nolan Arenado had a hit as the Rockies scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Chris Rusin allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-9 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Rockies start Christian Bergman who has allowed 61 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 33 over 56.2 innings for a 3-0 record and a 3.81 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued to hold their place in the post-season race as they beat the Rockies at Coors Field. Josh Harrison, Starling Marte, and Francisco Cervelli each had two hits as the Pirates scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out eight over 5.1 innings to get the win and raise his record to 6-2 for the season and Mark Melancon earned his 49th save. For Wednesday’s game the Rockies start Charlie Morton who has allowed 123 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 90 over 122.2 innings for a 9-8 record and a 4.26 ERA.
Colorado is 1-5 in their last six games against the NL Central, 33-82 against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 in game three of a series. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 35-16 in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Morton’s last five starts. Pittsburgh is 5-1 in their last six meetings with Colorado.
Morton hasn’t gotten it done of late but the Pirates are just the much better team so they have to be the play here.
