Mat Carpenter had two hits and Jason Heyward and Thomas Phan each had hits as the Cardinals scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed nine hits and a runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 13-9 for the season and Steve Chisek earned the save. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinals start Lance Lynn who has allowed 158 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 155 over 159.1 innings for an 11-10 record and a 3.28 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds continued their stagger towards the finish of the season as they lost to the Cardinals on Tuesday. Jay Bruce hit a home run, Adam Duvall had three hits, and Jason Bourgeois and Brayan Pena each had two hits as the Reds scored one run on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Keyvius Sampson allowed four hits and a run while striking out one over 5.1 innings to not get a decision as Sam Lecure took the loss to fall to 0-2 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Reds start Brandon Finnegan who makes his second start for the Reds after allowing three hits and a run while striking out 8 over 7.2 innings donce being traded to Cincinnati from the Royals.
St. Louis is 7-2 in their last nine games, 7-3 in their last 10 game three of a series, and 2-5 in Lynn’s last seven starts.
