The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants face off on Thursday at Petco Park as they close out the National League West series.
The San Diego Padres fought back on Wednesday to win in the bottom of the ninth against the Giants. Jedd Gyorko had four hits and Yangervis Solarte and Matt Kemp each had two hits as the Padres scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed two hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Craig Kimbrel got the win. For Thursday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has allowed 150 hits and 75 earned runs while striking out 158 over 157.1 innings for an 8-15 record and a 4.29 ERA.

The San Francisco Giants battled back after losing the lead on Thursday but they eventually let it slip away as they lost to the Padres on Friday. Jarrett Parker hit a home run, Brandon Crawford had two hits, and Angel Pagan had a hit as the Giants scored four runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Jake Peavy allowed four hits and struck out four over 6.0 scoreless innings to not get a decision as George Kontos took the loss. For Thursday’s game the Giants start Madison Bumgarner who has allowed 173 hits and 65 earned runs while striking out 219 over 205.2 innings for a 18-8 record and a 2.84 ERA.
San Diego is 8-20 in game three of a series, 2-7 in their last nine games against a team with a winning record, and 0-5 in Kennedy’s last five starts. San Francisco is 5-1 following a loss, 6-18 in their lat 24 road games, and 7-2 in Bumgarner’s last nine starts. San Francisco is 6-2 in their last eight games against San Diego.
Runs may be tough to come by in this one but the total has been set to aggressively to the low side so I like the over here.
