The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners face off on Sunday in Anaheim as they close out their MLB series.
The Los Angeles Angels continue to chase the Astros for the final Wildcard spot in the American League and they held their ground on Saturday beating the Mariners. C.J. Cron and David Freese each hit home runs and Kole Calhoun had two hits as the Angels scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Heaney allowed five hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Fernando Salas got the win. The Seattle Mariners continue to play out their disappointing season as they lost to the Angels on Saturday. Ketel Marte hit a home run and Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano had hits as the Mariners scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Danny Farquhar took the loss. For Sunday’s game the mariners start Hisashi Iwakuma who has allowed 100 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 102 over 115.1 innings for a 9-4 record and a 3.67 ERA.
Los Angeles is 5-1 in their last six home games, 5-2 in game three of a series, and 48-17 in Weaver’s last 65 home starts. Seattle is 8-2 in game three of a series, 11-6 against the AL West, and 8-2 in Iwakuma’s last 10 starts.
This is a tough one as the Angels have a lot more to be motivated by but Iwakuma is the better pitcher so I will stick to the basics and take the Mariners here.
