The New York Mets look for a win to even their series with the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday.
The New York Mets have been playing well and want to head in to the postseason with a full head of steam. The Mets absorbed a rare loss to Philadelphia by a 4-3 count on Tuesday night. Starter Bartolo Colon served up a three run homer in the first and lasted just five frames in falling 14-13. The Mets totaled nine hits and walked five times with Lucas Duda leading the way with a pair of homers and three RBI’s while Daniel Murphy also scored. Rookie Steven Matz draws his 7th start of the season and first against the Phillies. Matz was hit hard in a 6-4 win at Cincinnati with three runs given up on ten hits in 5.2 frames.

The Philadelphia Phillies will continue to field some new faces as the season ends as they will be looking to fill the roster next year. The Phillies received just enough hitting and pitching for a win over the Mets which doesn’t happen often. Starter David Buchanan allowed a run through 4.2 innings before Kenneth Giles served up a two run jack in the 9th. Darin Ruf paced a 12 hit attack with a three run homer in the first while Aaron Altherrr singled in a run and scored. Philadelphia turns to rookie Alec Asher for his first career start versus the Mets on Wednesday. Asher comes off his best outing where he gave up a run over seven frames of a 1-0 loss at Miami.
The over is 23-4 in New York’s last 27 road games while the Mets are 24-5 in their last 29 road games and the over is 29-11 in their last 40 on grass. The over is 34-11-6 in Philadelphia’s last 51 home games while the Phillies are 2-6 in their last 8 home games and 7-19 in their last 26 overall. The over is 57-22-5 in the last 84 meetings and the Mets are 36-15 in the last 51 meetings. I’m picking the Mets and hoping I’m wrong because Phils fans hate losing to New York…
