The Washington Nationals and the New York Mets clash in the night cap of their doubleheader.
The Washington Nationals were supposed to beat out the Mets for the National League East crown but instead have chased their rivals for the second half of the season without success. The reasons are varied with the Nats able to slug it out or match pitch for pitch with opponents but they have been inconsistent in most areas. Washington is one of the top power hitting teams in the game but one of the best rotations in the game have been tagged with long balls so what we have is a team that can win 2-1, 6-2 games but also has lost too many of these type contests. The Nationals hand the ball to Max Scherzer who has easily been their best starter. Scherzer comes in off of a dominant 5-1 win versus Cincinnati where he gave up a run on two hits in eight innings.

The New York Mets were supposed to play second fiddle to the Nationals but have been something of a surprise in winning the National League East rather easily over the heavily favored Nats. While the Nationals rotation garnered most of the headlines the Mets staff has proven to be one of the best with plenty of young and highly effective arms that should remain that way for the future if they remain healthy. The offense has been surprisingly good and overshadowed by their outstanding work on the mound. Matt Harvey toes the rubber against the Nationals for the 6th time this season in game two of their DH. In 2015 Harvey has gone 13-7 with a 2.80 ERA through 30 starts.
Washington are 3-7 in their last 10 overall and are 3-7 in their last 10 games on grass while the under is 9-3-1 in Scherzer’s last 13 road starts. The over is 7-2 in New York’s last 9 on grass and is 35-17 in their last 52 overall while the Mets are 7-3 in Harvey’s last 10 home starts. Scherzer might have a slight edge on the mound but I’ll take the better team…
