The Seattle Mariners and the Oakland A’s face off on Sunday as they close out their MLB seasons.
The Seattle Mariners went past the distance on Saturday but they lost to the A’s in extra innings. Robinson Cano hit a home run, Ketel Marte had a hit, and Franklin Gutierrez had a hit as the Mariners scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias allowed seven hits and four runs over 2.0 innings to not get a decision as J.C. Ramirez took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Mainers start Vidal Nuno who has allowed 74 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out while striking out 58 over 68.2 innings for a 1-4 record and a 4.19 ERA.

The Oakland A’s have had a tough year but that didn’t stop them from fighting their way to a win on Saturday. Danny Valencia and Marcus Semien each hit home runs and Bret Lawrie and Mark Canha each had two hits as the A’s scored seven runs on 13 hits. Staring pitcher Sean Nolin allowed six hits and three runs while striking out two over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Pat Venditte got the win to go to 2-2 for the season and Felix Doubront earned the save. For Sunday’s game the A’s start Chris Bassitt who has allowed 73 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 61 over 80 innings for a 1-8 record and a 3.60 ERA.
Seattle is 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games, 1-6 against the AL west, and 1-9 in their last 10 games. Oakland is 3-9 in their last 12 games, 11-22 in their last 33 road games, and 0-5 in Bassitt’s last five starts. Oakland is 2-5 in their last seven games in Seattle.
I don’t love either of the options here as far as starting pitchers but I see Seattle closing it out with a win at home.
