The Houston Astros visit the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card on Tuesday.
The Houston Astros might be considered the surprise team in the American League postseason as they haven’t enjoyed too much success the past several years and generally were a team trading away some of their talent for draft picks. The Astros led the American League West for a good portion of the season before eventually slowing down enough for the Rangers to overtake them but instead of folding Houston hung on to snag a Wild Card spot. The Stros strategy is straightforward in that they are one of the top power hitting teams in the game and that makes this a dangerous team in a one game playoff. The Astros start Dallas Keuchel in the Wild Card with just four runs given up in the last 20.2 innings. Keuchel has faced the Yankees twice this season and has yet to allow a run in 16 innings.

The New York Yankees have been labeled too old by many but in fact have sprinkled some youth here and there throughout their lineup. The Bronx Bombers have endured their share of injuries as well and some of the faces that began the season will be cheering on their team from the sidelines. The Yankees spent some time atop the American League East but after Toronto made a few acquisitions at the All Star break it seemed that every team was playing for second at that point. The Yanks eventually emerged as ‘that team’ but have not been at their to end the season with defeats in six of their last seven where the pitching has struggled. The Yankees hand the ball to Masahiro Tanaka for the Wild Card bout with Houston on Tuesday. Tanaka faced the Astros in late June in a 9-6 victory where he allowed all six runs on seven hits including three homers in five frames.
Houston are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass while going 3-8 in their last 11 playoff road games. The over is 8-2 in New York’s last 10 Tuesday games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 home games and is 6-2 in their last 8 playoff games. The under is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings and the over is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings in New York. I’d probably take a look at the over but nothing major…
