The Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals play game two of the ALDS Friday afternoon.
The Houston Astros look to steal another game and all but end the series going back to Texas. The Astros have now won eight of their last 10 games, which includes two playoff wins. In the game one win over the Royals, the Astros managed to put 11 hits together despite striking out 14 times. George Springer and Colby Rasmus both went deep while Jose Altuve had three hits in the leadoff spot. The Houston Astros have not blinked down the stretch and are only gaining confidence as the wins continue to pile up. Scott Kazmir gets the ball, and he’s 7-11 with a 3.10 ERA and 155 strikeouts this season. Kazmir is 5-8 with a 4.54 ERA and 89 strikeouts in his career against the Royals.

The Kansas City Royals need a win here to realistically have a shot of winning this series. However, the Royals have now lost nine of their last 13 home games. In game one, the Royals just couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end, as Ben Zobrist and Kendrys Morales combined for four of Kansas City’s six hits. The Kansas City Royals left six guys on base and struck out four times. We know what the Royals are capable of and how dangerous they are, but we haven’t seen it in a while with any type of consistency. This is pretty much a do-or-die game for Kansas City. Johnny Cueto takes the hill, and he’s 11-13 with a 3.44 ERA and 176 strikeouts this season. Cueto is 3-6 with a 3.64 ERA and 58 strikeouts in his career against the Astros.
The Astros are 19-41 in their last 60 road games and 3-8 in Kazmirs last 11 starts. The Royals are 36-16 in their last 52 vs. American League West and 2-7 in Cuetos last 9 starts. The Astros are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.
The Royals offense isn't going to be down for long, as there's simply too much talent on this roster. Also, Cueto is a big game pitcher and the guy Kansas City picked up for spots like this. I expect the Royals to come through here.
