The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to avoid elimination when they battle the Mets in New York Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are fighting for survival after taking one on the chin in a 13-7 defeat at Citi Field Tuesday to trail the series 2-1. The obvious problem was on the mound where starter Brett Anderson gave up six runs over three frames followed by Alex Wood who was charged with four runs in two innings. The Dodgers 13 hit, two walk attack fell well short with Adrian Gonzalez going solo and Yasmani Grandal ripping a two run single before Howie Kendrick slammed a three run homer in the 9th. Left hander Clayton Kershaw makes his second start of the NLDS against the Mets. Kershaw was a 3-1 loser in game one of the series with all three runs plated on four hits and four BB over 6.2 frames.

The New York Mets are a capable offensive team but don’t usually get in to shootouts especially with their great pitching so game three’s score was surprising and satisfying with the team within a win of advancing to the NLCS. Starter Matt Harvey allowed three runs through five frames to get the win with Eric Goeddel serving up a three run homer in the 9th. The New York attack was still too much with 13 hits and five walks that saw Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d’Arnaud both homer and drive in three and score three while Curtis Granderson went 2-5 and knocked in five. Rookie Steven Matz gets the ball in game four against the Dodgers on Tuesday. Matz defeated Los Angeles 8-0 in July with a two hits and a pair of bases on balls allowed in six scoreless innings.
Los Angeles are 40-17 in Kershaw’s last 57 starts and are 40-17 in Kershaw’s last 57 starts on grass while the under is 14-6 in Kershaw’s last 20 on grass. The under is 8-2 in New York’s last 10 playoff home games and the Mets are 2-6 in their last 8 overall while going 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass. Los Angeles are 8-2 in Kershaw’s last 10 starts vs. the Mets and the under is 7-2 in Kershaw’s last 9 starts vs. New York. I might consider the Mets once I see the odds when released…
