The New York Mets visit the Kansas City Royals to open the year with a rematch of last season’s World Series.
Washington was the favorite to win the National League East in 2015 but when the smoke cleared it was the New York Mets that stormed to the conference crown and went to the World Series. The Mets added some offensive punch in the offseason by signing Yoenis Cespedes and are hoping for an injury free campaign from David Wright but guys like Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson and Wilmer Flores need to produce especially with Daniel Murphy leaving for the Nationals. Of course the Mets are known for their formidable rotation that feature Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz and opening day starter Matt Harvey with many calling this group the best in the game.

The Kansas City Royals have taken over as kings in the American League Central and are looking like the best in a competitive division once again. The defending World Series champions don’t possess the best pitching or hitting in the game and really don’t stand out in any phase but they are a clutch group and score and pitch as well as anybody when push comes to shove. KC resigned Alex Gordon and will need power from Kendrys Morales, Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas and avoid playing small ball as much as possible. The success of the Royals could come down to their pitching that was average overall and could be much the same with Kris Medlen, Chris Young, Yordano Ventura, Ian Kennedy and Sunday’s starter Edinson Volquez.
I need to see a line but on paper the New Yorkers seem to have an edge but we all know Kansas City just wins games. I don’t think we’ll see much changing in 2016 so this team will be challenging for another World Series but we’ll know more as time goes on…
