Camden Yards and the Baltimore Orioles host the Minnesota Twins in the season opener for both squads.
The American League Central certainly looks like it belongs to Kansas City with everybody else battling for second and that everybody else contains the Minnesota Twins. The Twins finished 83-79 and were a threat for the Wild Card and were competitive for a team thought to be one of the worse in the AL. The Twins seldom used the same lineup which fit them well but the question is will Paul Molitor try to put the same starting nine out every day or juggle things like last year. Brian Dozier is an extra base machine and Miguel Sano, Eddie Rosario and Bryon Buxton are good looking players so the lineup had potential. The biggest unknown is the rotation of Phil Hughes, Kyle Gibson, opening day starter Ervin Santana, Tyler Duffey and Tommy Milone which does not scare opposing hitters.

The Baltimore Orioles were one of the best teams in the American League with 96 wins in 2014 but were just .500 a year ago. The Orioles could hit the long ball (3rd AL-217) and should be even better in that department with the signings of Pedro Alvarez and Mark Trumbo who join Chris Davis, Manny Machado, and Adam Jones to give the Birds dangerous power and run scoring potential. The downside to this lineup is no speed and too many solo jacks because nobody is on base. More bad news for the Orioles is the 4.53 ERA the rotation put up with Yovani Gallardo, Chris Tillman and Ubaldo Jimenez being the only givens in my view. Tillman gets the nod on opening day but he tends to give up runs although he is good when on but the entire staff needs consistency.
The under is 7-2-1 in Santana’s last 10 road starts and Minnesota are 6-2 in Santana’s last 8 starts. The over is 13-3 in Baltimore last 16 home games and the under is 11-4-1 in their last 16 Monday games while the Oriole are 7-1 in Tillman’s last 8 Monday starts. Minnesota are 8-0 in the last 8 meetings. No idea what to expect but the better odds seem tempting for now…
