The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves open the season Monday afternoon at Turner Field.
The Washington Nationals look to bounce back from last season’s failures in which they failed to make the playoffs with crazy expectations. The Nats now have a new manager in Dusty Baker, who must make the postseason with the talented roster that’s in place. The Washington Nationals offense will once again be led by an impressive trio of Bryce Harper, Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman. However, it must take others such as Daniel Murphy and Ben Revere to step up in order for Washington to take that next step in the National League East. Max Scherzer gets the ball, and he was 14-12 with a 2.79 ERA and 276 strikeouts last season. Scherzer is 1-3 with a 3.62 ERA and 37 strikeouts in his career against the Braves.

The Atlanta Braves can’t be much worse than they were a year ago, as 95 losses doesn’t set the bar that high for this season. The Atlanta Braves have some promising pieces in Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis and Jace Peterson, but majority of the rest of the roster are question marks. The addition of Erick Aybar should help add some excitement to Atlanta's order that struggled to put runs on the board last season. Bottom line, Fredi Gonzalez isn’t exactly working with a loaded cupboard and this seems like another rebuilding year for the Braves. Julio Teheran gets the nod, and he was 11-8 with a 4.04 ERA and 171 strikeouts last season. Teheran is 3-2 with a 3.65 ERA and 60 strikeouts in his career against the Nationals.
The Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 road games and 4-1 in Scherzers last 5 starts. The Braves are 8-1 in their last 9 home games and 4-1 in Teherans last 5 starts. The Nationals are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Atlanta.
I don't like this Braves roster at all, as they're going to struggle big time to produce runs. With Scherzer on the mound and the Nats offense, the road team should win this by at least two runs.
