What an opening day match up we have in store at Yankee Stadium with the Houston Astros coming to town to try to repeat the heroics of their 2015 AL Wild Card victory against the New York Yankees.

The Houston Astros go with Dallas Kuechel on the mound, the reigning AL Cy Young winner will be looking to build on his 20-8, season where his ERA was a sublime 2.48 with 216 K's. Kuechel was fantastic last season and most definitely gives the Astros a chance to win every time he is on the mound. While the Astros were a suprise story last year they are no longer in that position and come into this game as one of the favorites for the season with the over under line set at 87.5 wins. The Astros now have a young team with quality throughout the line up. The time could well be now for the Astros with players like Carlos Correa who looks like a player set to become an MVP candidate in only his second season in the big leagues, he has special ability and will be expected to hit over 30 home runs in 2016 swiping over 20 bags and the Astros will be relying on their SS to lead be example. But Correa is not the only special young talent in this Astros' squad with Altuve and Springer both set to break out and the experienced Carlos Gomez also in the line up this looks like a really potent hitting team.

For the Yankees they go to Mashiro Tanaka on the mound. If Tanaka can stay fit then the Yankees have their ace but starting just 24 games last season with a 12-7 record and question marks over an injured elbow already this season it's tough to see the Yankees sticking with Tanaka as an opening day option into the future. There is no doubt Tanaka is a quality player but health is your wealth in the baseball world and if Tanaka can't stay healthy then the Yankees cant really build around his pitching. The Yankees are in the midst of a rebuild and unfortunately in a town where not winning a World Series is seen as a failure there is alot of pressure on some young players at Yankee stadium. The Yankees will need production from Mark Texeira, Alex Rodriguez , Jacoby Elsbury and Carlos Beltran with their experience vital for the season ahead. Starlin Castro will be looking to make an impact in his first season in the Bronx, Castro struggled last season with the Cubs and batted .200 in the playoffs. This will be a big season for Castro and if he can find success at second base here this could turn out to be a great aquisition for Joe Girardi and the Yankees.

In the Wild card match up last season Dallas Kuechel dominated the Yankees pitching six scoreless innings allowing just three hits. Looking at the match up both pitchers being aces have excellent head to head records with Kuchel dominating this Yankees line up all be it with very small sample sizes.  The Astro's had a good Spring training and were very productive with the bat I think this is going to be the key here and I fancy the Astro's bats to cause more damage to Tanaka. I dont see the Yankee's get much against Kuchel and at -123 I think this is one of the better plays on Opening Day.
