Marlins Park and the Miami Marlins host the Detroit Tigers in an interleague bout Wednesday.
The goal for the Detroit Tigers is to climb back to the top of the American League Central and knock Kansas City off their pedestal. Things were looking favorably early with Detroit leading 5-0 early and 7-4 late before the Marlins tied it in the 9th with Detroit prevailing 8-7 in eleven. Justin Verlander allowed three runs over six frames before Francisco Rodriguez blew the lead with three runs plated on four hits over one inning. The offense totaled 12 hits and four walks with Ian Kinsler going 3-6with a homer, four RBI’s and two runs with Anthony Gose going deep and scoring three times while Victor Martinez smacked a pinch hit solo jack. The Tigers go with Anibal Sanchez on the bump for his second career meeting versus the Marlins. Sanchez will be looking for a bounce back year after going 10-10 with a 4.99 ERA in 2015.

The Miami Marlins goal is to become a challenger in the top heavy National League East which means competing with Washington and the Mets. The Marlins will need better efforts all around with the offense unable to bail out the pitching. Left hander Wei-Yin Chen was charged with five runs on nine hits through five frames for a no decision with Craig Breslow allowing an 11th inning run to absorb the loss. The Fish logged ten hits and walked three times with Giancarlo Stanton launching a two run homer. Dee Gordon went 3-6 with a run driven in and two runs scored but the starting pitching and late inning relief faltered. The Miami Marlins send ace Jose Fernandez to the hill for his first outing of the season. Fernandez made eleven starts in 2015 because of Tommy John surgery and was very good at 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA.
Detroit are 9-3 in their last 12 Wednesday games and are 2-6 in their last 8 interleague games while the over is 34-15-4 in their last 53 road games. Miami are 7-1 in their last 8 games on grass and are 2-7 in their last 9 interleague games while the over is 10-3-1 in their last 14 Wednesday games. Sanchez has the ability to beat anybody but Fernandez is one of the best in the business…
