The Houston Astros collide with the New York Yankees in the Big Apple in Wednesday action.
The Houston Astros are out to prove last season was not a fluke and only time will tell if that is true. It was true Tuesday in a 5-3 victory at New York behind solid starting pitching and some late scoring. Dallas Keuchel gave up a pair of runs on three hits and four bases on balls over seven frames to pick up the win. The bats totaled six hits and walked three times with Carlos Correa going deep with a pair of runs knocked in while scoring twice. Luis Valbuena was 1-4 and knocked in two with Jose Altuve scoring two runs. Collin McHugh draws Wednesday’s start versus the Yankees after seeing them twice a year ago. In those starts McHugh allowed three runs on seven hits and four BB over 14.1 innings pitched.

The New York Yankees are looking for a return to prominence in the American League East in 2016. Opening day didn’t go favorably however as the offense was held in check and the bullpen faltered. Starter Masahiro Tanaka was charged with a pair of runs on four hits and a free pass through 5.2 frames for a no decision. Dellin Betances was charged with three unearned runs with a hit and two walks issued with his error causing the game to get out of hand. The Bronx Bombers totaled four hits and walked four times with Didi Gregorius smacking a solo bomb while Starlin Castro lashed a two run double. The Yankees send right hander Michael Pineda to the mound to oppose the Astros for the third time in his career. In 2016 Pineda was 12-10 with a 4.37 ERA covering 27 starts.
Houston are 20-43 in their last 63 road games and are 27-10 in McHugh’s last 37 starts on grass. The under is 8-2 in New York last 10 home games and is 16-6 in their last 22 Wednesday games while the Yankees are 3-7 in their last 10 Wednesday games. The under is 13-4 in the last 17 meetings. I think the Astros have at least an even chance of winning so I’ll take the better odds…
