The Chicago Cubs look for their second straight win over the Arizona Diamondbacks after doubling up on them 4-2 at Chase Field last night.
The Chicago Cubs got a big win on the road last night to improve to 4-1 on the season and will look to make it five in this one as they send Jake Arrieta to the mound to face off against Shelby Miller. The Cubs were dealt a serious blow this week when one of their top prospects Kyle Schwarber was lost for the season thanks to a torn ACL and LCL after colliding with teammate Dexter Fowler in the outfield and while Chicago has a ton of depth to work with they will certainly miss their power hitting left fielder. The Cubs send their ace to the mound as the reigning NL Cy Young winner will look for his second win of the season and will have to contend with one of the league’s best hitters in Paul Goldschmidt. Chicago is 52-24 in their last 76 games and are 7-0 in Arrieta’s last seven starts against teams with a losing record which sets them up for another solid performance against a D-Backs side that is without AJ Pollock.

The Diamondbacks got a nice 3-2 win against the Cubs on Friday night but came up short with Zack Grienke on the hill in what was likely their best chance at getting a second win in this series as they know have to deal with Jake Arrieta. Arizona, like the Cubs, have had to deal with a devastating injury that has sidelined star outfield AJ Pollock for most of the season and he isn’t expected back until at least the all-star break but skeptics think it could be even longer which dashes Arizona’s all-in NL West division approach. The D-Backs still have some pop and with Grienke and Shelby Miller leading the way on the bump they should be competitive but neither has looked good so far making this another tough spot for Arizona. Give me the Cubs again with the better pitcher and better lineup.
