The San Francisco Giants are off to a hot start at 6-2 and they look to make it 7 when they face the Colorado Rockies for game 2 of a 3 games series at Coors Field on Wednesday.
With four wins in their last five the Giants have been hot of late and the bats have got it done with the Giants scoring 7 and 9 in their last two games. Jake Peavy will get the start for the Giants, in his opening game Peavy got hit hard with 10 hits and 4 earned runs given up. Peavy has faced the Colorado Rockies on 22 occasions and has a 7-7 record against them, 5-4 in Coors field. The Giants have one of the hottest hitters in the league with Buster Posey hitting an incredible .396 at the moment, Posey has 9 home runs in Coors field and the best catcher in baseball will look to lead his team to victory here on Wednesday night. The Giants are off to a great start with the team combined hitting .276 one of the best averages in baseball. Angel Pagan, Hunter Pence, the aformentioned Posey and Brandon Crawford are all finding ways to get the ball in play and the Giants in this form with this pitching staff are going to be very hard to stop this season. The Giants lead the NL West by two early and teams will look to hang onto their coattails as this is an incredibly strong roster.
USA TODAY Sports
One of the Story's of the season is the emergence of Trevor Story at Short stop for the Colorado Rockies, Story only in the side due to the suspension of Jose Reyes has launched seven home runs in his first six games, a MLB record but came back to normality on Tuesday with three strike outs against the Giants Jeff Samardzija. The Rockies have some hot bats though with DJ LeMahieu hitting .462 at the moment in 7 games started he has 12 hits, 7 runs scored and 2 HR's. Doesnt get much hotter than that. Unfortunately for the Rockies the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 7.84 and you simply cant win games giving up an average of 9 runs a game. Jordan Lyles gets the start for Colorado after a terrible opening game where he gave up 7 hits and 5 earned runs over just 3 innings. Lyles will look to improve on that outing but he faces a tough task here against one of the hottest teams in baseball. Giving the friendly hitting park that is Coors field this is not a great match up for Lyles.
Under is 5-0 in Giants last 5 following a win, Giants are 0-6 in their last 6 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game, Giants are 4-0 in Peavy's last 4 starts after the opponent allows 5 or more runs in the previous outing.
Rockies are 0-4 in Lyles last 4 home starts, Rockies are 0-6 in Lyles last 6 after allowing 5 or more runs in the previous game, Rockies are 1-10 in Lyles last 11 following a team loss in the previous game.
I think we are getting value on the Giants here and at -130 they look one of the strongest plays on the board today.
