The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs play game two of their series Wednesday night.
The Cincinnati Reds look to build on their impressive 5-2 start to the season. The Reds are getting the job done with a pitching staff that’s allowed two or less runs in four of their seven games. The Cincinnati Reds have a solid ERA of 3.05 and are averaging a little more than eight strikeouts per nine innings. The Reds have won five straight when allowing three or less runs. Offensively, Eugenio Suarez leads Cincinnati with 10 hits, Jay Bruce has nine RBI and Billy Hamilton has one home run. Alfredo Simon gets the ball, and he’s 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA and seven strikeouts this season. Simon is 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA and 34 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs are off to a 6-1 start, which is easily their best start in decades. The Cubs have allowed three or less runs in four straight games and have an overall ERA of 2.59. The Cubs have won 13 of their last 14 regular season games in which they allowed three or less runs. While still early, the Chicago Cubs are certainly living up to big offseason expectations. Offensively, Dexter Fowler leads Chicago with 10 hits, Anthony Rizzo has 10 RBI and Addison Russell has one home run. John Lackey takes the hill, and he’s 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA and four strikeouts this season. Lackey is 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA and 48 strikeouts in his career against the Reds.
The Reds are 38-81 in their last 119 road games and 4-11 in Simons last 15 starts. The Cubs are 42-12 in their last 54 games following a win and 35-16 in their last 51 during game 2 of a series. The Reds are 4-1 in Simons last 5 starts vs. Cubs.
This line is a little crazy to me, as it's not like Lackey is some world beater who can't be hit. Also, Simon has owned the Cubs throughout his career, and the Reds overall aren't playing bad baseball. Based on the value, you have to like the Reds in this spot.
