The Detroit Tigers battle the Pittsburgh Pirates in interleague action Wednesday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are a team that prefers to avoid shootouts which means their pitching has to be competitive. It wasn’t Tuesday and the result was an 8-2 pounding by Detroit. Newcomer Juan Nicasio was hit hard with four runs plated on six hits and five BB in three frames before Kyle Lobstein gave up three runs on six hits and a pair of walks over three innings to put the game out of reach. The Buccos mustered five hits and four bases on balls with Starling Marte going 2-4 with a two run homer that scored David Frieese. Left hander Francisco Liriano makes his third start of the year when he faces the big bats of Detroit. Liriano comes off of a 6-5 win at Cincinnati but did not get a decision with three runs allowed on five hits and four BB.

Everybody knows that the Detroit Tigers can light up the scoreboard but when they get solid pitching they are a force to be reckoned with. That was what we saw Tuesday with plenty of offense and another great effort on the mound from Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez improved to 2-0 with a two run bomb surrendered over 5.2 innings with four hits and three walks allowed before four relievers finished up. The Tigers racked up 14 hits and eight bases on balls with Ian Kinsler going solo and scoring three times with Justin Upton going 4-5 with a homer, two RBI’s and three runs. Victor Martinez drove in two and scored while JD Martinez as 4-5 and knocked in a pair. Shane Greene gets another shot at making the Tigers rotation with his first outing of 2016. Greene saw the Pirates once last year and dominated them with a three hit shutout over eight innings of a 2-0 victory.
The over is 10-1 in Detroit last 11 interleague games and Detroit are 10-3 in their last 13 Wednesday games while the over is 36-15-4 in their last 55 road games.Pittsburgh are 47-20 in their last 67 home games and the under is 7-3 in their last 10 on grass while going 7-3 in their last 10 overall. I’m just basing this on what Greene did in 2016…
