The Texas Rangers look to sweep the Seattle Mariners at Safeco for their first Series sweep of the season.
The Rangers notched 8 runs off Wade Miley on Tuesday with Adrian Beltre driving in five runs with a 3 run home run and Elvis Andrus going 3 for 4 with a double. The Rangers line up has started to heat up over the last five games scoring seven or more runs in their last five games. The Rangers give the ball to Aj Griffen on Wednesday who impressed in his season debut against the Angel's getting the win after giving up three runs on six hits in his first Major League start since 2013. The Rangers have won four of their last five and the bats have come alive on this road trip with the Rangers scoring seven and eight in their last two. Beltre is having a fantastic season and has moved his average above .300 while Price Fielder is still struggling for hits he leads the team in RBI's and Elvis Andrus is hitting a career best .357 and providing stellar defence at the short stop position.
USA TODAY Sports
After starting the season with two wins from their first three and scoring 21 runs in the first three games the Seattle Mariners have now lost five in a row and scored just 7 runs over that period. The Mariners offence has fallen off the face of the planet with Leony's Martin the former Texas Ranger the only player battign above .300. Nelson Cruz has struggled in the recent 5 game skid and after hitting four home runs in his first three games Robinson Cano has lowered his hitting average to .182 by going 2-16 over the last five games. Seattle need to snap out of this funk. On Wednesday though they will have a chance to win with some solid pitching on the mound in the form of Taijuan Walker who was solid in his opening game just giving up just seven hits and two runs in six innings in a game that the Mariners lost to the Oakland A's but if Walker can repeat that type of solid effort and the Mariners can generate some offence then I think a the Mariners could break their five game skid here.
Mariners are 0-5 in last five overall, Mariners are 6-1 in Walkers last 7 after scoring 2 or less in their previous, Under is 6-1 in Mariners last 7 after allowing 5 runs or more in the previous game.
Tough to trust the Mariners here, the offence has struggled so much and playing in Safeco runs are hard to come by. That said I think Taijun Walker will give the Mariners an edge on the mound and that could be enough to get the win. The Under looks a solid play here though with Griffen also likely to benefit from the pitching friendly confines of Safeco.
Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 when opponent scores 2 runs or less in previous game, Rangers are 4-1 in their last 5 against AL West, Rangers are 4-1 in last 5 overall.
