The Line: Pittsburgh Pirates -128 / Detroit Tigers +118 --- Over/Under: 7 See the Latest Odds
The Detroit Tigers look to stay undefeated on the road as they continue their series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates on Thursday.
The Detroit Tigers exploded for seven runs on 10 hits including a rare four-spot off a grand slam from catcher Jared Saltalamacchia that broke open the game in the sixth inning off of Arquimedes Caminero. The Tigers brought in some pieces in the offseason both in the linup and on the bump and they are hoping two of their marquee additions will be impactful in this one as Justin Upton continues to swing a red hot bat and former National ace Jordan Zimmermann will look to follow up a stellar season debut on the road against Gerrit Cole. The Tigers are 502 to start the season and 4-1 in their last five interleague games but will face a stiff test here against Cole at home and after a tough debut from the Pirates’ young ace you can bet he will be ready to go in this one.

The Pirates meanwhile look to get back in the win column after posting a 5-3 mark through their first eight contests and with this one slated to starts at 12:35 PM EST we are treated to a matinee pitching performance between one of the best young arms in the game and a reliable vet trying to prove his worth with his new team. Pittsburgh is at very least a co-favourite in the NL Central this season but it is against teams like the heavy hitting Tigers where they will need to prove they are contenders and while it is early in the season an interleague victory against one of the best in the AL would be a nice confidence boost. The Pirates are 13-4 in their last 17 games against the AL Central and are 8-1 in Gerrit Cole’s last nine interleague starts so this should set up well for them and I expect he and the Pirates to bounce back and get a win here
