As the MLB celebrate Jackie Robinson day Dodger Stadium will get to see one of the best pitching match ups in the Majors as the San Francisco Giants sent Madison Bumgarner to the mound to face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
The San Francisco Giants suffered their first series loss to the Colorado Rockies this week but will open a three game series with the Dodgers looking to stop the slide as the Giants have lost two straight now. Madison Bumgarner gives the Giants a great chance to win everytime he is on the mound but he has a spectacular 3-0 record at Dodger stadium when facing Clayton Kershaw and has an era of 1.27 during that stretch. Considering that the Giants have not had much success at Dodger Stadium in recent times they will be looking for any bit of confidence building they can get. The Giants succumbed to great hitting at Coors Field while losing their last two they scored six in both games. The Giants as a team are still batting well with a team average of .269. Angal Pagan, Brandon Belt and Buster Posey have been superb in the Giants solid start to the season. A win in this series would give the Giants a nice cushion early in the NL West Standings.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers have closed the gap on the Giants and drew level with last nights win over Arizona. Clayton Kershaw has been sensational this season giving up just 5 hits over 15 innings and an ERA of 1.20. Kershaw did give up a home run to Madison Bumgarner in the teams first meeting this season, something he wasnt happy about and the second time the Giants Pitcher had gone deep against Kershaw. While Kershaw has been specatacular on the mound the Dodgers line up has oblidged with hits, loads of hits. Yasiel Puig is batting over .400 and looks to be fulfilling his massive potential with more patience at the plate and smarter running. In addition though the Dodgers have five everyday players hitting over .300 as Chase Utley, Adrian Gonzalez, Trace Thompson and Enrique Hernandez are all hot at the plate along with the aformentioned Puig. This is a tough line up to get through and the Dodgers will be hoping they can get a win in this series.
The Giants are 0-4 in their last four in Dodger Stadium, Giants are 0-4 in Bumgarner's last 4 starts against NL West, GIants are 6-1 in last 7 after allowing 5 runs in the previous game.
Dodgers are 6-1 in their last 7 against a left handed starter, Over is 4-1 in Kershaws last 4 starts against NL West, Under is 9-2 in Kershaws last 11 home starts.
Looking for value here and the +153 with Bumgardner and the Giants just cant be ignored. Bumgarner's stellar record head to head against Kershaw and his recent domination of both pitcher and the line up in Dodgers stadium is tough to ignore. I'm taking the Giants to upset the Dodgers on Jackie Robinson day.
