The surging Washington Nationals are at Citizens Bank Park for a Sunday tilt with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Washington Nationals are looking very strong in the National League East although the season is still young. The red hot Nationals stayed on a roll with an 8-1 victory at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday night. Everything clicked for the Nats with starter Max Scherzer looking formidable with a run plated on a homer over seven frames to pick up the victory. The dangerous Washington offense totaled eight hits and three BB with Bryce Harper going 2-3 with a homer and three RBI’s with Scherzer smacking a two run double. Chris Heisey cracked a solo bomb while Anthony Rendon scored twice with every starter but one reaching base. Left hander Gio Gonzalez draws Sunday’s start against the Philadelphia Phillies. Gonzalez did not get a decision last time out in a 2-1 win versus the Atlanta Braves with a three hit shutout over six innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies need solid work on the mound and scratch out a few runs to have a chance at winning but received neither in their second consecutive defeat to the visiting Washington Nationals on Saturday night. Starter Aaron Nola never had anything going and was charged with seven runs on seven hits and three bases on balls through five innings while four relievers allowed a run over four frames. The Phillies bats were held to seven hits and a walk with Freddy Galvis going 2-4 while Cameron Rupp went 2-4 with a solo jack in the 5th inning which made the score 7-1. The Philadelphia Phillies hand the ball to Charlie Morton for the third time this year when he opposes the Washington Nationals Sunday. Morton comes off of a 3-0 victory versus the visiting San Diego Padres where he tossed a three hitter over 6.2 frames.
The under is 7-1-1 in Washington last 9 road games and the Nationals are 6-2 in their last 8 Sunday games while the under is 11-4-1 in their last 16 overall. The over is 38-17-6 in Philadelphia last 61 home games. Washington are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings. I think the Nationals have an edge on the mound and if true the runs will come…
