The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres meet up at Petco on Sunday after an extra innings affair yesterday that was ended off the bat of Melvin Upton Jr.
The Diamondbacks look to get back in the win column on Sunday as they continue their series against the San Diego Padres and will turn to Patrick Corbin on the hill is out for his first victory of the season as he matches up with Robbie Erlin who has been brilliant in his first two starts and will be out for his second victory. Arizona has struggled to start the year as they are an underwhelming 4-7 through their first 11 contests and while the injury to AJ Pollock has hurt them they do have a ton of of other weapons at the dish including MVP favourite Paul Goldschmidt but things haven’t quite fallen into place for them yet. Arizona is 0-5 in their last five games against a left handed starter but are 26-8 in Corbin’s last 34 games following a quality start and with an inexperienced pitcher playing very well on the other side it could be another sequence that follows that trend.
USA TODAY Sports
The Padres are 3-8 to start the year but don’t have a ton of expectation this season as their roster is pretty underwhelming and they have to contend with some of the league’s best teams in the NL West. San Diego does have some pretty solid pitching but always seem to be in the discussion of sending some top end arms away at the trade deadline and this year is no different as flame thrower Tyson Ross is expected to be on the move by season’s end. San Diego is a measly 10-25 in their last 35 in game three of a series and are 0-4 in their last four games at home and while Erlin is playing well right now I don’t see it continuing as the D-Backs have too much power and will send Corbin to the mound in a favourable spot for them.
