The Los Angeles Angels were looking forward to a great weekend with a trip to winless Minnesota but it wasn’t a good weekend after getting swept following a 3-2, 12 inning defeat on Sunday. The Angels appeared to be poised for a big day with a quick 2-0 first inning lead but the offense stalled after that and left their pitching to shoulder the load. Albert Pujols slammed a two run homer to drive in Mike Trout but the Angels mustered only four hits and three walks. Nicholas Tropeano gave up a run on five hits and a pair of BB with Joe Smith allowing in a run in the 8th to blow the save with Cory Rasmus taking the loss in the 12th. The Los Angeles Angels open the series on the mound with Hector Santiago. Santiago has two starts under his belt and has not received a decision with a 3.95 ERA in 13.2 innings.

The Chicago White Sox rely on their pitching to be competitive and win games but the offense still needs to score and the defense has to catch the ball. The work on the mound was fantastic in a 3-2 loss at Tropicana Field Sunday but the scoring and defense gave the Rays a win. Starter Jose Quintana was charged with all three runs (two earned) on seven hits and six K’s through six frames to fall to 1-1. The Chicago bats posted five hits and walked once while striking out 12 with Austin Jackson singling in a run while Avisail Garcia drove in a run and scored. Left hander Carlos Rodon gets the ball for the third time when the White Sox face the Angels on Monday. Rodon comes off a 3-0 win at Minnesota where he gave up three hits and walked five over six frames.
Los Angeles are 8-0 in Santiago’s last 8 starts and are 8-0 in Santiago’s last 8 starts on grass. The under is 15-5-3 in the White Sox last 23 on grass. The Angels seem to win whenever Santiago is on the mound but if Rodon has reasonable control and doesn’t walk the stadium, he has great stuff…
