The Line: San Diego Padres / Pittsburgh Pirates --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres begin a three-game series Tuesday night at Petco Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates look for a bounce back win after losing six of their last nine games. The Pirates pitching staff has let them down lately, as Pittsburgh has allowed seven or more runs in four of its last six games. The Pittsburgh Pirates have a team ERA of 4.02 and five of their six losses this season have come when they’ve allowed more than three runs. Offensively, Starling Marte leads Pittsburgh with 17 hits, Josh Harrison has seven RBI and Andrew McCutchen has two home runs. Francisco Liriano gets the ball, and he’s 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. Liriano is 1-2 with a 2.13 ERA and 49 strikeouts in his career against the Padres.

The San Diego Padres also need a feel good win after losing five of their last six games. The Padres have scored three or less runs in six of their last eight games and have lost 12 straight games when that’s the case. The San Diego Padres need to wake up offensively or this is going to be another frustrating season. Wil Myers leads San Diego with 15 hits, Matt Kemp has 12 RBI and Melvin Upton Jr. has two home runs. Colin Rea takes the hill, and he’s 0-1 with a 5.56 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Rea’s first career game against the Pirates.

I have more confidence in the Pirates being able to turn things around than the Padres. After all, San Diego is right about where many expected them to be before the season started. The day off should help the Pirates regroup, and Liriano is the type of pitcher capable of pitching a quality start and getting Pittsburgh back on board.

I like the Pirates to get the job done on the road.
