The San Francisco Giants and the Miami Marlins face off on Saturday at AT&T Park for game two of their MLB series.
The San Francisco Giants have been struggling of late but they managed to put together a big effort on Friday to beat the Marlins. Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, Brandon Crawford, and Denard Span were among those Giants with two hits as San Francisco scored eight runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija allowed six hits and a run while striking out five over 7.2 innings to get the win and raise his record to 2-1. For Saturday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who has allowed 28 hits and 14 runs while striking out 10 over 14 innings for a 0-1 record and 9.00 ERA.

The Miami Marlins fell behind early on Friday and were never able to get it going as they fell to the Giants. Christian Yelich had three hits, Justin Bour had two hits, and Dee Gordon had a hit as the Marlins scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jarred Cosart allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out one over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Jose Fernandez who has allowed 11 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 27 over 16.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.78 ERA.
San Francisco is 2-5 in their last seven games, 35-17 in game two of a series, 10-2 against the NL East, and 9-1 in Peavy’s last 10 home starts. Miami is 2-8 in their last 10 games, 1-7 against the NL West, 0-6 against a team with a losing record, and 10-1 in Fernandez’s last 11 starts against the NL West. Miami is 14-7 in their last 21 games in San Francisco.
This one should be low scoring as this should be a pitcher’s duel so my free pick is the under.
