The St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks look to keep the offense flowing as they face off once again at Chase Field on Tuesday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals had a rough stretch in the sixth inning of their game last night with the D-Backs and will look to rebound in tonight’s show down as they send Carlos Martinez to the hill as he will face off against former Cards and Braves pitcher Shelby Miller. The Cardinals always seem to find a way to stay competitive in the NL Central and while their roster has diminished significantly over the years they remain a pretty solid team top to bottom and should be in the mix until the end again this season.

The Diamondbacks meanwhile are expected to be in the fold in the Naitonal League West this season after going out and acquiring some key pieces in the offseason including Miller and Zack Greinke who pitched in last night’s game. Arizona did lose AJ Pollock but still have Paul Goldschmidt who is always in the running for the MVP award of late and if he can carry the bulk of the offensive responsible and the rotation holds up their end of the bargain they could very well slide into a playoff spot in the NL West or as a wild card team.
The Cardinals are 7-1 in Martinez’ last eight starts against the National League West, are 18-4 in his last 22 following a quality start in his last outing, and 9-2 overall in their last 11 against the NL West so things are shaping up well for them in this spot. The Diamondbacks meanwhile are 6-0 in their last six games on a Tuesday, 7-17 in their last 24 home games against a team with a winning record and a meagre 2-12 in their last 14 against the NL Central. With all things considered I like the Cards to get back in the win column even though Shelby Miller is always prone for a gem on the bump.
