The Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies continue their series at Coors Field on Tuesday after a heavy hitting affair last night.
The Pirates look for a follow up effort on Tuesday night and aim to move three games clear of the .500 mark as they stay at the hitter friendly confines of Coors Field and will hope to keep their hit tally trending upwards in a series they could make some strides in. Pittsburgh is considered to be a threat to win the NL Central this season and should be in the hunt for a playoff spot once again this season as they have a very solid lineup and a rotation that is more than serviceable and they will need to be as they have to compete with the Cubs and Cardinals. The Pirates will send Gerrit Cole to the mound as he looks for his second win of the season as he will face off against Jorge De La Rosa who has been hit hard to start the season.

The Rockies and rookie sensation Trevor Story were the talk of the league in the first week and a half but they have since cooled off significantly and are back to being considered a league doormat as they simply don’t have the roster to compete with the class of the National League. The Rockies do actually have a pretty nice roster as the likes of Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon, and Story but their rotation is one of the league’s worst and at Coors Field for 81 games it doesn’t bode well for them as opponents are giddy when they see a trip to Colorado on their schedule.
The Rockies are 43-89 in their last 132 games against a team with a winning record, are 3-13 in their last 16 games on a Tuesday, but are 5-1 in their last six home games against a team with a losing record so they could be in good shape here if they can get to Cole early. The Pirates meanwhile are 22-6 in Cole’s last 28 games on four days rest and are 13-3 in his last 16 games against the National League West and with the pitching matchup being so lopsided I don’t think there is anywhere else to go but with the road team.
