The Philadelphia Phillies travel to the nation’s capital to open a series with the Washington Nationals.
The Philadelphia Phillies were playing some of their best baseball of the season with three straight wins before the pitching fell short in an 8-5 defeat at Milwaukee on Sunday. Phils starter Jerad Eickhoff was hit hard with seven runs plated on nine hits including two bombs over 5.1 frames to fall to 1-3. The Philadelphia bats put forth a quality effort with ten hits that saw Odubel Herrera, Cameron Rupp and Cesar Hernandez each record RBI’s and score. The Philadelphia Phillies send out Vincent Velasquez to oppose the Nationals for the first time in his career. After back to back shutouts Velasquez was touched for five runs (two earned) on five hits including a pair of homers over 4.1 frames of an 11-1 loss to the Mets.

The surging Washington Nationals won for the 5th time in six contests with a dramatic come from behind 6-5, 16 inning victory versus the Minnesota Twins. The Nationals trailed 4-3 in the 9th before Bryce Harper slammed a pinch hit solo homer to go to extras where they scored twice in the bottom of the 16th to rally from a 5-4 hole. Stephen Strasburg gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out ten through 7.1 frames with five relievers following. The Nats totaled 16 hits and four walks with Mathew den Dekker and Bryce Harper going deep while Wilson Ramos smacked a two run double. The Washington Nationals will be looking for a return to Cy Young form from Max Scherzer when he faces Philadelphia Tuesday. Scherzer struggled last time out in a 5-1 loss at Miami with all five runs allowed on eight hits in five frames.
The over is 18-6-2 in Philadelphia’s last 26 Tuesday games and the Phillies are 33-68 in their last 101 road games. Washington are 8-0 in their last 8 home games and are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a win while going 17-5 in their last 22 overall. The Phillies are 6-14 in the last 20 meetings. I’m a Phillies fan and I can’t advise betting them but I can still hope…
