The Pittsburgh Pirates look to exploit the confines of Coors Field on Wednesday as they continue their series with the Colorado Rockies.
The Pirates head into Wednesday night’s game looking to build some momentum after a pretty successful night at the dish last night as they send Jonathan Niese to the bump as he will take on Jonathan Gray who gets the call for Colorado. The Pirates are considered to be legitimate playoff threats in the NL Central this season and with the lineup they have and recent playoff pedigree it is clear to see why as they have some guys who can hit the cover off the ball and with Andrew McCutcheon heating up it is bad news for the rest of the National League.

The Rockies meanwhile are considered to be among the league’s worst and have some serious needs to address before they can be considered a playoff threat once again, and while they have a few nice pieces in the form of Nolan Arenado and Trvor Story they may have to stockpile some prospects with an unload at this year’s trade deadline, much like they did last year with Troy Tulowitzki. Colorado, as mentioned, will send Gray to the hill who hasn’t been factored into a decision yet and has an ERA of 9.00, while Niese is 3-0 with a 4.24 ERA and will look to keep it going against a Rockies side who has some power at the plate.
Pittsburgh is 37-15 in their last 52 games against the National League West, 4-0 in Niese’s last four starts on grass, and 4-1 in their last five games on the road, while the Rockies are 43-90 in their last 133 games against a team with a winning record, 7-18 in their last 25 home games against a lefty, and 1-5 in their last six overall which spells a nightmare situation for them here against the Bucs who have the pitching edge once again.
