The Oakland Athletics hope to leave Comerica Park with a win versus the Detroit Tigers.
The Oakland Athletics were a favorite underdog on Wednesday at Detroit and when the smoke had cleared they didn’t have the pitching or hitting to compete in an 9-4 defeat. Ace Sonny Gray was a non factor with four runs allowed on four hits and four free passé over two frames while Liam Hendricks was charged with another three runs in two innings. The A’s offense produced eight hits and a pair of bases on balls with Khris Davis going deep for the first time and scoring twice while Jed Lorie and Billy Butler drove in runs and scored. The Oakland Athletics end their series in Detroit with Chris Bassitt on the bump. Bassitt comes off of a 9-3 defeat at Toronto with six runs given up on nine hits and a pair of walks in five innings.

The Detroit Tigers knew they had to perform well in all phases to beat Oakland and the scoreboard says they did exactly that. Many consider Tigers starter to be past his prime but he turned back the clock with three runs plated on five hits and a pair of walks through 6.1 innings to pick up the win while four relievers put up zeros. The Tigers logged nine hits and walked seven times with Victor Martinez going deep and driving in three while JD Martinez went 2-3 with a homer, four RBI’s and two runs. The Detroit Tigers hand the ball to Anibal Sanchez for Thursday’s match up with the Athletics. Sanchez was hit hard by Cleveland last time out in a 10-1 defeat where he was charged with seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in 2.1 frames.
Oakland are 2-7 in their last 9 Thursday games and the under is 12-4 in their last 16 on grass while going 9-3-1 in the Athletics last 13 Thursday games. The over is 6-2 in Detroit’s last 8 home games and is 11-5 in their last 16 Thursday games while the Tigers are 8-1 in Sanchez’s last 9 home starts. The over is 19-6-3 in the last 28 meetings in Detroit and the under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings. No real feel for this so I’m gong to say over…
