The Kansas City look to reverse their fortunes at Safeco against the Seattle Mariners.
The Kansas City Royals suffered an uncharacteristic sweep at the Angels capped off by a 4-2 loss on Wednesday. The Royals began well enough with a 2-0 first inning lead but the offense was held in check after that and the pitching needed more help. KC starter Chris Young gave up three runs on three hits including a pair of long balls over 5.1 frames to fall to 1-4. Kansas City mustered ten hits and walked three times with Eric Hosmer blasting a two run bomb that scored Mike Moustakas. Kansas City sends Kris Medlen to the hill to face the Mariners for the first time in his career. Medlen is coming off of an 8-3 loss to the Orioles where he was charged with seven runs on 9 hits and three BB in 3.2 innings.

The Seattle Mariners have been playing their best baseball of the season with both the arms and bats generally on the same page. The Mariners had won six of seven before falling to Houston by a 7-4 count on Wednesday. M’s starter Hisashi Iwakuma had a rare off night with five runs allowed on seven hits and two walks while whiffing seven through five innings to remain winless at 0-3. The Mariners totaled ten hits and walked three times with Robinson Cano going 2-5 with a homer and three RBI’s while Adam Lind was 2-4 with a solo blast. Felix Hernandez toes the rubber hoping for some support from the Mariners offense when he opposes the Royals on Friday. Hernandez took a 4-2 loss at the Angels last time out with three runs scored on five hits including two homers in seven frames.
Kansas City are 7-1 in their last 8 Friday games and the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a loss while going 14-5-2 in the Royals last 21 overall. Seattle are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass while the Mariners are 4-9 in their last 13 home games. The under is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings in Seattle. Don’t like the juice but the King versus a Royals squad a bit off their game is where I’m looking…
