The Washington Nationals look their second win in as many nights against the St. Louis Cardinals as the teams meet up at Busch Stadium on Saturday.
The Washington Nationals got yet another road victory against the Cards last night at Stephen Strasburg continued his excellent start to the season by moving to 4-0 and pushed the Nats to 15-7 on the season. Washington score four runs in the fourth inning off of Mike Leake and held on for a 5-4 win thanks to Jonathan Papelbon’s eighth save of the season and now they can lock up their eighth road win of the season with Joe Ross on the bump on Saturday. St. Louis will counter with Jaime Garcia to the mound who is 1-1 on the year with a 3.24 ERA as the team overall sits with a 12-11 mark through their first 23 games of the season.

The Cardinals rallied late in the eighth inning of last night’s game but couldn’t pull off the come back in the ninth as they faced off against one of the league’s top closers and ultimately fell short. St. Louis is expected to be in the hunt for another NL Central title this season but they are by no means the consensus favourite anymore and frankly they aren’t even see as the runners up in some circles as the Cubs and Pirates are very good baseball teams and top to bottom they look better than the perennial World Series contenders this season.
The Nationals are 9-4 in their last 13 road games, 32-13 in their last 45 games on a Saturday and 6-1 in their last seven games against a left handed starter while the Cards are an impressive 7-1 in Garcia’s last eight starts following a team loss in their previous game and 12-5 in his last 17 starts overall. However, Joe Ross has been very solid to start the season and with all thongs considered I think he outduels Garcia here and the Nats get another road win.
