The Colorado Rockies look to build off of yesterday’s hit parade as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday at Chase Field.
The Rockies look for their second win in as many nights against the Diamondbacks in Arizona after a spectacular outing yesterday in which they scored three runs in the ninth inning to put the game away and send the D-Backs to another disappointing loss. Colorado is a sneaky team in the National League as they have some serious pop in their lineup and can go run for run with some of the league’s best but don’t get much love because of their lackluster rotation but if they can get some kind of production out of their front line guys they should stay in the mix. Trevor Story has had a remarkable month of April and is the early candidate to win the Rookie of the Year award and he will be out for another big outing on Sunday as they face off against Shelby Miller.

The Diamondbacks meanwhile have stumbled to a 12-14 record to start the season and haven’t really looked like the team many expected to take massive strides forward this season and while they do have the like of Paul Goldschmidt and Jean Segura in their lineup they haven’t been able to translate that production into victories. Shelby Miller will be out to change that as he continues to be relied on as the number two behind Zack Greinke and if he is on he is certainly worthy of the money he got in free agency but has been known to get blown up with some degree of consistency.
The Rockies are 1-5 in their last six games overall, are 1-8 in their last nine against a team with a losing record, but are 4-1 in Bettis’ last five starts on a Sunday while the D-Backs are 5-1 in their last six games against the NL West, 3-7 in their last 10 home games, and 4-11 in their last 15 home games against a team with a winning road record. This series is tough to figure out as Arizona is the more complete team but Colorado has been able to find success despite having a disadvantage on the mound. In the end, I am giving Miller the benefit of the doubt as I expect Arizona to rebound and get the win today.
