The Washington Nationals and Kansas City Royals meet up for some interleague action on Monday in a potential World Series preview at Kauffman Stadium.
The Nationals look to continue their torrid pace to start the season as they starts a potential statement series on the road against the defending champions and with Bryce Harper playing the way he is right now it would shock nobody to see the Nats come in and walk all over the Royals. Washington has a very nice roster across the board and have a great rotation led by Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg but it has been the play of their secondary starting pitchers that have been the difference as Tanner Roark, and tonight’s starter Gio Gonzalez have been just as impressive to start the season. The Nationals are 17-7 to start the season and take on the 13-11 Royals who will send Edinson Volquez to the bump.

The Royals head into this series at home with the Nationals travelling back across the country after a series in Seattle and they don’t have much time to get readjusted as they host the Nats in game one on Monday night. Kansas City are the defending champions for a reason but they will be out to prove the doubters wrong once again and much like this series can be used as a statement for the Nats it can be equally as impactful for the Royals who would love nothing more than to send Harper out of KC in tears.
The Nationals are 16-7 in their last 23 games against a righty, 19-8 in their last 27 overall, and 5-1 in their last six against the AL Central while the Royals are 11-2 in their last 13 against a lefty, 4-1 in their last five against a team with a winning percentage above .600 and 43-19 in their last 62 home games. This should be a very exciting series and while the Nats are playing very well I do think the Royals get the win here to start the series as they have a deeper roster and will get a nice outing out of Volquez who has quickly become their ace.
