The Kansas City Royals haven’t been playing well but they figured to have a better then even shot at getting a win at Cleveland on Friday night. However, the offense stumbled and the work on the mound couldn’t control the scoreboard in a 7-1 defeat. Royals starter Yordano Ventura lasted four frames with five runs plated on six hits and five free passes with Brian Flynn allowing two more over four innings. KC logged eight hits and walked once with Alex Gordon driving in Eric Hosmer with the only run. Kansas City turns to veteran Ian Kennedy who is searching for consecutive victories. Kennedy is coming in off of a 4-1 victory at Seattle where he gave up the lone run on four hits and a pair of BB in five frames.

The Cleveland Indians have a lot of talent on the mound and at the plate and when both are on the same page they are tough to handle. That was what we saw Friday with Indians starter Danny Salazar throwing a four hit shutout and striking out nine through 7.2 innings to improve to 3-2. The Tribe bats did the rest on nine hits and seven walks with Mike Napoli going 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run while Jose Ramirez was the offensive star with five runs knocked in on a 3-5 performance.Cody Anderson draws Saturday’s start against the visiting Royals in game two of their series. Anderson has struggled the past three times out with 15 runs allowed on 28 hits including four homers over 14 innings.
Kansas City are 1-7 in their last 8 road games and are 2-7 in their last 9 overall while going 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass. The over is 27-12-1 in Cleveland’s last 40 home games and the over is 8-0 in Anderson’s last 8 starts overall while going 8-0 in Anderson’s last 8 home starts. The over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Cleveland. If the Royals are going to win one this might be it but they are not a sure thing right now…
