Fenway Park will come alive once again Tuesday evening for game two action between the Oakland Athletics and the Boston Red Sox.
In the Monday opener, the Red Sox scored six runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth on the way to a dominant 14-7 victory and a series edge. Oakland showed a little life with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, but couldn’t overcome the huge deficit.

For Tuesday’s game, the A’s will be going with left-hander Sean Manaea as the starter. After getting promoted in late April, Manaea has posted a 7.20 ERA, a 1.60 WHIP and a 9:5 K:BB ratio over two starts and 10 innings. In his last appearance on Wednesday against the mariners, Manaea allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings.
The Oakland lineup isn’t terribly impressive overall, but does boast a few notable hitters. Josh Reddick leads the way with 38 hits and 17 RBI. Khris Davis has posted seven homers and 16 RBI, but is sitting on a .222 BA. Marcus Semien has had similar BA issues (.202), but has eight homers with 15 RBI. Davis slapped a home run and two RBI on Monday, but Semien came up empty 0-for-4.
The Red Sox will be going with right-hander Sean O’Sullivan in Tuesday’s game. We haven’t seen much of O’Sullivan this year, as he was just recently called up from Triple-A to help fill in rotation gaps from injuries. In his lone appearance with the big club this year on Saturday (a blowout against the Yankees), O’Sullivan allowed two hits and a run in one inning of work.
The Boston batting order is a pretty good mix of vets and up-and-comers, all performing well. Dustin Pedroia has been hot all year on 42 hits with 22 runs, while Xander Bogaerts isn’t far off on 40 hits and 23 runs. David Ortiz has earned plenty of press with his nine homers and 29 RBI this year in another great start to the season. Ortiz went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run on Monday.
The Athletics are 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games, and 1-5 in their last six against the American League East.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 5-2 in their last seven game twos of a series, and 5-1 in their last six home games.
I like the Red Sox here, as I don’t think Manaea has the stuff to compete with that offense. Boston shouldn’t have too many troubles getting the victory.
