The Tampa Bay Rays look to get their bats going on the road as they continue their series against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco.
The Rays look to chalk another one up in the win column on Tuesday night in Seattle as they send Drew Smyly to the bump who is projected to face off against Wade Miley in what could be another pitcher duel at Safeco Field. The Rays were two games above the .500 mark heading into Monday night’s contest and while they are often overlooked thanks to the lineups possessed by the Jays, Red Sox, and Orioles, Tampa could very well surprise some people and make a run at a wild card spot. Smyly has been great to start the season despite a 1-3 record as he carries a 2.72 ERA while on the other side Wade Miley is 2-2 with an ERA of 4.74.

The Mariners head into tonight’s game with an impressive mark in the AL West and at this moment they have to be considered the favourite to win the division and get into the playoffs as they have a very deep lineup and great rotation. Seattle is led by Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz at the dish and Felix Hernandez and Taijuan Walker on the hill and with a decent bullpen and plenty of depth at the back end they are going to be a tough team to beat on a nightly basis and things don’t get easier for Tampa here who will need a strong effort despite the edge on the mound.
The Rays are 7-1 in their last eight Tuesday games, 5-1 in Smyly’s last six road games, and 6-1 in their last seven against the AL West, while the Mariners are 5-1 in their last six against a team with a winning record, 14-5 in their last 19 Tuesday games but 1-5 in their last six home games against a lefty. This should be another great outing and while the home team is deeper I do think Tampa rides the play of Smyly to a big road win.
