The Line: Atlanta Braves +105 / Philadelphia Phillies -115 --- Over/Under: 7 See the Latest Odds
The Atlanta Braves look to keep their bats red hot after they connected on 10 yesterday as they host the Philadelphia Phillies again on Thursday night.
The Phillies look to rebound after a sluggish effort on the road against he Braves last night and they are sending the right guy to the mound In response as Vince Velasquez looks to continues his strong start to the year as he will face off against Aaron Blair. The Phils have surprised some people this season as they started off quite strong and while they have leveled off a little bit they are still doing much better than anticipated and could very well wrinkle some plans for other NL contenders this season. Philly is 19-14 heading into tonight’s game with Velasquez contributing with a 4-1 record and a sparkling 2.17 ERA while the Braves are a putrid 7-24 as Blair is 0-2 with a 3.31 mark.

The Braves look to build on yesterday’s win against the Phils as they stay at Turner Field and while they don’t have much to hang their hats on it is good to see Freddie Freeman starting to heat up after he struggled to start the season. Atlanta doesn’t have a great team from top to bottom and will likely land in the basement of more than a few statistics this season as their offense is woeful and can’t compete with the big dogs in the NL East. Atlanta does have some hope on the mound but right now they are struggling everywhere and even to a Phils side who was expected to be a league doormat, they don’t match up well.
The Phillies are 7-1 in their last eight against the NL East, 8-2 in their last 10 against a righty, and 11-5 in their last 16 road games while the Braves are 16-35 in their last 51 home games, 21-55 in their last 76 overall, and 4-24 in their last 28 games against a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Velasquez looks like the real deal right now and against a light hitting Braves team I think he completely dominates and gets his fifth win of the year.
