The San Diego Padres look to build on their double header sweep of the Chicago Cubs yesterday as they continue their road trip at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Padres went into Wrigley yesterday looking to build some momentum and did they ever as they took both games against the league leading Cubs including a 1-0 shutout in the second leg and now they will turn to James Shields looking for their third win in as many games. San Diego isn’t given a ton of love by those projecting this year’s playoff contenders and while they still have a ton of work to do before they can even be considered in the same breath as the powers of the NL West they are certainly a better group that many expected heading into the year. Shields is a measly 1-5 with a 3.60 ERA so far this season while Jimmy Nelson will go for the Brew Crew who is 4-2 with a 3.74 ERA which goes rto show just how unlucky James Shields has been this season.

The Brewers head into this one coming off a 3-2 loss against the Miami Marlins last night but return home looking to get back in the win column in a very winnable game against the Padres. Milwaukee has had another torrid start from all-star outfielder Ryan Braun and while the team success hasn’t really been reflective of that there is still plenty of time for the Brewers to catch up as they could very well challenge for a playoff spot as well this season, though they have some tough competition to deal with in the NL Central.
The Padres are 0-6 in their last six road starts against a team with a losing record, 8-20 in Shields’ last 28 starts, and 5-2 in their last seven during game one of a series while the Brewers are 5-1 in Nelson’s last six starts, 0-7 in their last seven Thursday games, and 4-0 in their last four against a right handed starter at home. This should be a great game to watch and while the Padres have momentum I think they will be a little out of steam here as Milwaukee gets the victory.
