In Saturday afternoon MLB action from Yankee Stadium, we’ve got another AL matchup between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees.
This will be game two of the weekend set. In Friday evening’s game one, the White Sox blew out the Yankees 7-1, giving Chris Sale his eighth victory of the year.

For Saturday’s game, the White Sox will be whipping out left-hander Jose Quintana. Over his seven starts and 5-1 record in 2016, Quintana has logged a 1.38 ERA and a nice 0.99 WHIP in 45.2 innings of work. On Sunday when we last saw him, Quintana put up seven innings of one-run ball in a victory over the Twins.
The White Sox batting order features a pretty powerful group of hitters. Melky Cabrera has jumped out to 40 hits and 19 runs this season, while Adam Eaton has managed 42 hits with 18 runs. Eaton went 3-for-4 on Friday. Todd Frazier has been swinging a big stick this year with 11 homers and 31 RBI, but his BA is a tepid .217. Frazier whiffed again 0-for-3 on Friday.
Over on the Yankees’ side, we’ll be seeing right-hander Ivan Nova, who replaced the injured CC Sabathia in the New York rotation. Nova has put up a 4.34 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP overall in 18.2 innings this season. On Monday in his first start of the year, Nova logged one run in 4.2 innings of work and six hits.
The New York batting order has been something of a rollercoaster this season with injuries and production. Starlin Castro is the standout with 37 hits, 11 runs and 14 RBI. Carlos Beltran leads the team in homers with seven, and has 17 runs. Beltran went 0-for-4 on Friday. Backstop Brian McCann is also off to a solid start on 27 hits with 18 runs and 16 RBI. McCann didn’t play in the opener.
The White Sox are 5-1 in their last six Saturday games, and 4-0 in Quintana’s last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 2-5 in Nova’s last seven home starts, and 1-5 in Nova’s last six starts during game two of a series.
Nova isn’t too bad of a pitcher, but I don’t think there’s any way he out-duels Quintana here. Chicago shouldn’t have much trouble getting the road win.
