The San Francisco Giants look to extend their lead in the NL West when they visit the San Diego Padres.
The San Francisco Giants haven’t really stood out yet but are heading in that direction following five consecutive victories after a 2-1 win at Arizona on Sunday. The Giants offense was held in check so starter Matt Cain came up big with the lone run scored on seven hits and a pair of BB over seven frames even though his performance resulted in a no decision. SF mustered four hits and walked five times with Trevor Brown going deep while Brandon Crawford singled in Hunter Pence.San Francisco turns to ace Madison Bumgarner to open the series at Petco Park Monday. Bumgarner defeated Toronto 5-4 last time out with a run scored on three hits and four BB over 6.2 innings.

The San Diego Padres need to get to .500 and stay there to be a contender in the National League West and we’ll see if their offense can consistently score going forward because that is the real key. That didn’t happen Sunday and the result was a 3-2 defeat at Miller Park. Padres starter Cesar Vargas did not figure in the decision with two runs given up through five innings on a pair of solo homeruns with Kevin Quackenbush absorbing the loss with a run scored in the 6th. SD logged seven hits with Brett Wallace hitting his third homer while Derek Norris drove in Travis Jankowski. The Padres are slated to start Colin Rea against San Francisco who he has never seen. Rea did not get a decision in a 7-4 win at Chicago with all four runs given up on seven hits and four BB in five frames.
The under is 13-4 in Bumgarner’s last 17 Tuesday starts and San Francisco are 29-12 in Bumgarner’s last 41 road starts. San Diego are 2-7 in their last 9 Tuesday games and the over is 7-1 in Rea’s last 8 home starts. The over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and the Giants are 9-2 in the last 11 meetings. It’s tough to go against the Giants when they are playing well…
