The New York Mets and Washington Nationals continue their battle at Citi Field.
The Washington Nationals can look unbeatable at times and ordinary at others and need to find some middle ground. The Nationals are in a bit of a funk right now with three straight defeats after a 2-0 loss at Citi Field Tuesday night. Nats starter Max Scherzer allowed both run on solo jacks over 6.1 frames to take the loss. The Washington attack consisted of five hits and 13 strikeouts with Ryan Zimmerman posing the lone scoring threat with a double. The Nationals are slated to start left hander Gio Gonzalez against NL East rival New York on Wednesday. Gonzalez was at the top of his game last time out in a 5-3 win versus Miami with a two hit shutout over five innings.

The New York Mets need to avoid costly losing streaks if they expect to capture another NL East crown and picked a good time to snap a four game slide with Tuesday’s victory against Washington who is their biggest competition. Mets starter Noah Syndergaard was at the top of his game with a five hit shutout through seven innings while striking out ten. New York mustered four hits and walked three times with Curtis Granderson and Michael Conforto connecting on solo homers. Veteran Bartolo Colon will get the ball for the New York Mets on Wednesday night. Despite being 40+ years old, Colon has done well in eight appearances with a 3-2 record and solid 3.53 ERA.
The under is 6-1-1 in Washington’s last 8 Wednesday games and is 15-7-3 in their last 25 road games while the Nationals are 74-35 in their last 109 Wednesday games. New York are 8-2 in their last 10 home games and the over is 11-3 in their last 14 Wednesday games. The under is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings in New York and the under is 5-1-3 in Gonzalez’s last 9 starts versus the Mets. I am backing Washington but I don’t have enough faith to bet them…
