Life is tough for the Milwaukee Brewers as they find themselves in the toughest division in baseball. The Brewers have won three of four after downing the division leading Cubs 5-3 Thursday afternoon. Brew Crew starter Junior Guerra was key with all three runs scored on five hits and three BB over seven frames while striking out eleven to up his record to 3-0. Milwaukee did their damage on eight hits and four walks with Chris Carter leaving the yard with Kirk Nieuwenhuis going deep and driving in two with two runs while Scooter Gennett scored twice. The Brewers send Wily Peralta to the hill to oppose the Mets for the first time in 2016. Peralta was hit hard in an 8-7 loss to San Diego with six runs given up on eight hits and three BB in 4.2 innings.

The New York Mets are mired in a bit of a funk and now find the NL East to be a three team race with Washington and Philadelphia. The Mets funk continued in a 9-1 loss to visiting Washington that has the team looking at defeats in six of seven. Nothing went as planned with NYM starter Matt Harvey getting lit up for all nine runs (six earned) on eight hits and a pair of BB through just 2.2 innings. The Mets offense was held to six hits and three walks while striking out 13 times with Asdrubal Cabrera driving in a run with Yoenis Cespedes scored. The Mets are going with Steven Matz on the bump for the opener with Milwaukee if his tender elbow is 100%. Matz comes off of a 4-2 win at the Dodgers with both runs given up on six hits over six frames.
The over is 28-12-3 in Milwaukee’s last 43 road games and the Brewers are 4-9 in their last 13 road games while the under is 11-5-2 in their last 18 Friday games. New York are 9-2 in their last 11 Friday games and are 9-3 in their last 12 home games while the over is 6-2 in Matz’s last 8 starts on grass. The under is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings and Milwaukee are 13-5 in the last 18 meetings in New York. The Mets have been awful but a healthy Matz gives tem a shot…
