Over at Yankee Stadium in MLB action on Wednesday, we’ve got another matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees.
On Tuesday in the opener of this series, the Yankees crushed the Blue Jays 6-0. New York bagged eight hits in that one to Toronto’s two.

For Wednesday’s game, the Blue Jays will be whipping out right-hander Marco Estrada. Over his eight starts and 1-2 record this season, Estrada has tabulated a 2.61 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP in 51.2 innings. When we last saw Estrada on Thursday, he put up eight innings of work against the Twins with two runs (one earned) for a no-decision.
The Blue Jays batting order has been one of the most talked-about this season in the MLB. Michael Saunders has 48 hits with 23 runs, and Josh Donaldson has put up 43 hits with 37 runs, 11 homers and 24 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion has 43 hits with 19 runs and 32 RBI. Saunders, Donaldson and Encarnacion combined to go 0-for-11 in Tuesday’s game.
Over on the Yankees’ side, we’ll be getting another look at right-hander Ivan Nova. In his nine starts and 3-1 record this year, Nova has put up a 3.26 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP over 30.1 innings. On Thursday in his most recent start, Nova logged six innings with just one run and four hits.
The veteran Yankees lineup has had some mixed results this year. Starlin Castro has been a nice pickup with 45 hits and 18 RBI. Carlos Beltran leads the team on 1- homers and 29 RBI with 24 runs. Beltran bagged a homer in Tuesday’s game. Jacoby Ellsbury has 38 his with 19 runs to his credit for a .281 BA. Ellsbury slapped a triple on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays are 5-1 in Estrada’s last six starts against a team with a losing record, but 1-4 in Estrada’s last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 5-1 in their last six game twos of a series and 7-1 in Nova’s last eight Wednesday starts.
I like both Estrada and Nova here, but something’s got to give. I’ll take the Blue Jays in a relatively close game.
