The Line: Colorado Rockies +103 / San Francisco Giants -113 --- Over/Under: 10.5 See the Latest Odds
The San Francisco Giants look to keep rolling as they take to the road at Coors Field to battle the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
The Giants head into Mile High looking to net their 31st victory of the season and they will send the seemingly resurgent Matt Cain to the mound who struggled mightily in the early going but has looked great in last couple of starts and gives the Giants a great shot here against Tyler Chatwood and the Rockies. San Francisco is an impressive 14-8 on the road this season and are 9-1 in their last 10 games overall which should give them some confidence playing against the Rockies who are 4-6 in their last 10 and are just 8-10 at Coors this season. Matt Cain is 1-5 with a 5.36 ERA but again has looked better than those numbers in his last two starts while Chatwood is 5-3 with a 3.02 mark which is impressive considering the graveyard for pitchers that is Coors Field.

The Rockies head into this one sitting with 21-24 record but the NL West is completely wide open right now and with the power they have at the plate they are never out of a game as guys like Carlos Gonzalez, Trevor Story, and Nolan Arenado can all hit the ball out of the yard on each pitch. Colorado doesn’t have a very strong rotation though and that will be their Achilles heel this season as they don’t have a guy that can come out and dominate a game whereas teams like the Giants and Dodgers who have become NL West powers can throw Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw at you every five days and that instills fear into opposing hitters.
The Giants are 10-1 in their last 11 road games, 15-2 in their last 17 against the NL West, and 4-1 in their last five following an off day, while the Rockies are 4-0 in Chatwood’s last four Friday starts, 2-6 in their last eight overall, and 4-0 in their last four home games. This should be an exciting series but the Giants are too strong here despite Matt Cain’s struggles and I like them to get the win in the series opener.
