The Houston Astros travel to the west coast to battle the rival Los Angeles Angels on Friday.
The question for the Houston Astros is will they find the magic of last season in 2016. The Astros found some magic against the visiting Orioles with a three game sweep following Thursday’s 4-2 victory. Stros starter Lance McCullers was superb with a solo homer being’ the only hit allowed while walking six and striking out ten over five frames to get the win. Houston logged six hits and walked twice with George Springer going deep twice while Luis Valbuena went 2-3 with a homer and two runs driven in. Mike Fiers draws the game one start at the Angels on Friday night. Fiers was a hard luck 2-1 loser versus the Rangers with both runs plated on six hits and a BB over seven innings.

The Los Angeles Angels need a prolonged winning streak to climb over .500 and make a move in the American League Central. The Angels have dropped consecutive contests following a 15-9 loss at Texas where their pitching struggled. LAA starter Hector Santiago fell to 3-3 with six runs plated through 2.1 innings before four relievers were tagged for another nine runs. The Los Angeles offense pounded out 14 hits with Rafael Ortega going 2-3 with a homer, three RBI’s and two runs with Jett Bandy driving in two more. Overall every starter but one reached base. The Angels are slated to start Matt Shoemaker in game one of their series with visiting Houston. Shoemaker did not get a decision in a 3-1 loss to Baltimore with 7.1 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts.
Houston are 27-58 in their last 65 road games. The Angels are 3-8 in their last 11 home games and are 3-13 in Shoemaker’s last 16 home starts while the under is 5-2-1 in Shoemaker’s last 8 home starts. The under is 13-6-2 in the last 21 meetings. I am leaning Houston but betting this one takes some guts…
